Default 48X24X24 0r 60X18X24

Trying to decide on my next Tank, I like the dimensions of the 120 - 48X24X24 perfect midsize reef tank, but I also like the longer look of the 112 5 feet is nice, might be able to get an extra fish or two with the extra length.

Lighting won't be a problem, 2 400W Radiums will cover both.

The space I have will work with either of these tanks, a 6 foot tank is out.

Anyone have any suggestions or expierence with either of these tanks?, Pros, Cons.

112 Gal. 5 ft L - 18"W - 24" H

120 Gal. 4 ft L - 24"W - 24" H

Thanks

My 90g is 48x18x24 and I sure wish I had the extra depth of 24" instead of 18" .
I would do the 120g

i aws in a similar delema(sp?) and went with the wider tank, you will regret not picking the 24" wide tank eventually.

Yeah, it basically depends on what you want to keep I think. For "reef," the front-to-back dimension is usually the most limiting factor when designing rockwork. When you get into those larger breadths like that, it opens up more possibilities for ravines, interesting crevasses, etc.

But then again, a 5' tank gives you that extra foot of swimming space so the fish might appreciate that more.

I dunno ... it's hard to say.

...

I know! If both tanks will fit .... How about a tank that is 60x24x24? That's only ... um .... 150 gallons?

Tony,
If you go 48"L, go the 24"W and 30"H - you get a few more gallons(150),height for rock work and/or fish space and land scaping with 24"W works great, adds that depth look. Also don't forget deep sand bed takes away alot of your height blah, blah blah.................

Ooops, there you go Wayne, go 60x24x30. That's only ... um ... just shy of 190 gallons??

It's easy to suggest upgrades when you're spending someone else's money!!

I understand what Tony is saying about other people's money but why not split the difference between the two tanks? I have a 60"x24.5"x24.5" tank and have the added length and the width. Might as well do the tank you want now. And another bit of advice...get euro or perimeter bracing. Single biggest mistake I made is the center brace.

I am also in agreement with Troy, I sacraficed length to get the with.. I got the 36X24x25 and I don't regret it one bit.. if I would have had the money at the time I probably would have went longer but I would have never driped down to a with of 18.. just to narrow and it will limit your aquascaping options.. or force you to have little open sand bed.. the only thing I would sugess in adition if you can aford it and are ordering the tank is set up to the next glass thickness and go "Braceless".. this was my bigest mistake in not doing this..

Thanks fellas, Euro Bracing is already in the plans, no center brace, might get starfire for the front pane, like to see the difference first, probably do the 48x24x24, maybe go 27 H

Thanks for the replies

Its a no brainer, wayner

Go for the five footer and you get to keep tangs.
But some might say I am a bit biased
