how long does this type of lighting last? like do you have to change out the bulbs often?

they will be good for SPS, but these lights are good for small nano's not large tanks as they will make a huge spotlight effect of they are not pretty high up. if you are going to have SPS I would get the 40 degree optics also so you can play with the oupt vs hight. the smaller degree optics the higher they will have to be to get even covearge.

would they produce too much heat for a nano tank?

LEDs don't project heat that is anythign to worry about. the fins on the light disapeat the heat that is why it has to be in a open fixture so air can get at it good.

Are you going to have one hooked up at the shop so we can have a look? Or do you have any pictures of them running?

We will have one on display and in use within the store, we are actually going to be building a nice little Nano in the store to showcase some of the livestock as well as all of the more specialized reef gear we are carrying.
