Default Online LR order/Hoping to borrow a small air pump/heater

Hi everyone! I've ordered two boxes of 50lbs Fiji Live Rock from Los Angeles. It's being UPS'ed to me as I type. To cure it, I've got a big plastic tub ready to go and was planning on using fresh synthetic sea water with some water from my aquarium as well.

I was planning on letting this new rock cure for about a week or two, although will have to see how things go. I was wondering if someone may have an extra air pump (so I can have a diffuser in the bucket to provide air) and/or a heater so I can keep things warm in there.

I don't know if it is necessary to have a protein skimmer in there though. Should I instead be asking if someone has a spare skimmer I could borrow?)

Anyway, please let me know if there is anyone in the Edmonton area who could help me out. I could even buy these items off of someone if it's cheap enough.

Thanks!

Default rock

I would suggest an old power head for flow and attach an air line tube to it for air. Filtration isn't needed but due to the die off of some of the critters in the rock some kind of filtration in my opinion is needed. The odor can be overwhelming.

Default Importing Live Rock

Have you ever imported live rock into Canada from the States? I thought that permits are required.

Same question from me.

Did you find a cost effective way to get it here?

I would also suggest a powerhead, but I do have an air pump you could buy cheap. You will also need to have at least one heater in your tank once the rock is ready, so buying one now to heat your water would be what I would do.

If you want my air pump, PM me with your phone # and we can talk about pick up, etc.

Well, this is the first time I've done this so I guess we'll find out in a couple of days. I talked to the company and they said that they ship to Canada all the time and have never had any problems with it. I don't believe that I am supposed to get a permit for the Live Rock as the supplier did not tell me to get one. I'm really hoping there won't be any surprises here. I hope that it gets here quickly with minimal die-off and without any extra charges or duties. <sigh>

As for the shipping, it's being UPS'ed to me from LAX. In two days it's already in Richmond, BC and now it's on its way to Edmonton. Luckily it's warming up here so at least I'm not AS worried.

Will definitely post back here once I get the boxes!

Do you have a link to the supplier for the rock?

That is all interesting, as everyone has been saying you need a CITES permit for live rock. Update us when it arrives please.

Tagging along here... I hope it doesn't get stuck at the border.

Me too, although it seems to already be in Canada and on its way to Edmonton apparently so I would think any customs issues should be behind it. I think.

The company I got it from is here:

And I have no idea what a CITES permit is.
