Default Sturgeon Fishing

Anyone ever go Sturgeon fishing in the Fraser river ? My son has been bugging me for years so last weekend we gave it a try. We never hooked up but we had a solid hit I just couldn't get to the rod in time to set the hook. We had a huge sturgeon rise a foot from the stern when I started up the the o/b it must have been a seven footer . After that I'm hooked we will be heading out this Saturday to see if we can hookup with a Dino

We went Sturgeon fishing in the Fraser in early May 2011 with STS Guiding Service out of Mission. Our guide told us the best time of year is October, but the spring season is also pretty good. There were 4 of us with lines in the water, and in 6 hours (that's marina to marina, not 6 hours fishing) we caught 7 Sturgeon. The biggest one in the boat was about 5 1/2 feet. I caught the biggest one -about 7 feet, but he got caught in the lines before everyone could get them out of the water and we got him to the boat and cut the lines off and let him go. He fought for about 20 mins, I was SO tired! It was awesome, and we would like to go back in the fall sometime.

I had friends go this spring and they caught 4 Sturgeon the smallest was 4 feet long and about 250 lbs and the largest caught by his wife and it was just over 7 ft long and 650 lbs. Not sure how long they were out for but the big one took just over an hour to reel in all caught on video too was entertaining to watch.

All the fish they caught were catch and release as well

Imagine a 4 foot person weighing 250lbs.....I don't think sturgeons are shaped like barrels
