Default Quick Skimmer Question

Hi, just a quick question. I'm looking at a skimmer for a tank I'm setting up. The tank would be 27 gallon plus a 10 or 20 gallon sump. Would an SWC 120 be overkill, or could I just run it part time?

Thanks,
Rob.

I'd say it's fine, it's rated at 55gal under heavy bioload. Your close enough with the 20 gal sump

I've been very impressed with the Tunze's lately and have been recommending them... easy to use and setup and most importantly, easy to dial in and keep stable...

I've been really impressed with the swc when I have seen it on the tanks. I currently run a bubble magus nac 7 on a similar size setup and I'm really happy with it.

Im running a vertex IN-100 on a similar setup as yours. Doesnt seem like overkill and pulls an amazing amount of sludge out of the water. Ive been told skimmer manufacturers usually over estimate their figures, like everything else :P

I should mention i find it alittle noisy, however the price was right.

Thanks everyone, I knew I'd get some decent info here. I'm setting up the small tank again for my wife, and unlike last time I set it up I want to make sure I get a decent skimmer. I might be able to get a second hand SWC which was why I mentioned that one in particular, but if that doesn't work out I'll definitely look into some of the others..

That skimmer will work fine for that size tank. You can run it 24/7.

I have that skimmer on my 50-gallon plus about 8 gallons in the sump, and the skimmer is definitely at its max.
