Default Pump timers

How often or little are people activating pumps to add more flow into their tanks?

Ive got a strong power head that causes great flow, some of my corals love it same with the fish but some corals hate it.

So ive put it on a timer as a comprise amd was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions.

I use the Hydor Koralia Smartwave timer it works well and for years I had it set to switch every three hours but recently I changed up things and changed the cycle to every hour and so far I am enjoying the new setting.

Remember the ocean is continually swirling so it’s just not the tidal effect that we try to recreate but ocean swirls as well.

Some reefers switch their flows as often as every thirty seconds while others may not switch for hours. Basically the choice is a personal one.

There is in my opinion no wrong answer as to how often to switch flows
