Removal of corner silicone

has anyone removed the corner bead of silicone from your tanks and not rechaulk it?
I know it offers no structural integrity to the glass seam but I'm curious about
A) any issues with algae growth imbedding into the corner.
b) any inadvertent or unforseen problems you later regretted not rechaulk
