Fish dead.

So I did a water change a day ago, when I came back.

My yellow angelfish, clown, wrasse found dead.

I checked the parameters
Nitrate 5.0ppm
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Specific gravity 1.29 at 40ppt
Temp 27.8c

Yes the tank is pretty young... about 2 months old only.

Fish gurus I need your guidance.

The salinity seems high to me.

How big was wc.
Ro water or tap
Was it cold
What's po4
Are you running a skimmer. ( imo brochures with lid on have little area for gas exchange
Any signs of stress prior to

I'll assume you meant 1.029 salinity ? Not 1.29
Agreed it's a bit high. Just bring it down slowly and you'll be fine
And IMHO 27.8c (82f) is a bit high as well, but that's just me

Did you test your WC parameters before doing the WC ?
It's always best to check before tossing the new water into your DT

I always like to have my SG matching perfectly, and my temp very close, before dumping it in

Beyond that, I like to keep an eye on my big 3 in case it'll upset my corals

What kind of water are you using to make your new salt water (NSW)?
Tap ? RO ? RODI ?

What are you mixing it in, and if you're using a powerhead and/or heater in the container, are they intact ?

I lost a bunch of fish to salinity. My tester broke and went from 1.024 to 1.029. Pretty much killed everything in my tank. Even after I caught it. Start taking out a cup at a time of water. Depending on size, and replace it with a cup of fresh. Slow enough to not shock them further but not to long as they are in Super salty water.

PO4 is phosphate, yes salinity is high.
+1 on what gregzz4 said, best to test water b-4 the change.

Inverts like salty. All my inverts survived, just the fish. Didn't have coral at that time so can't comment on that.

Lowered it to 75 f

Yes

Nitrate was high 5.0ppm

Other than that everything was fine.
