Default Pretty Puffer In Belize (and other fish)

Was looking through old pictures and I found some from a trip to Belize a few years ago. Canon G7 with underwater housing. Favorite camera I have owned but it was stolen in Australia the next year

I think this was in Hol Chan canyon... just off San Pedro island but these guys were all over the place. More puffers, gorgonians and sharks then I have ever seen anywhere else!

Just thought I would share. I can probably dig up some more. I should have Whale Shark pics somewhere.

Maybe 3" or so. They were all over. This species of Toby Puffer especially.

This was about 3 years back exactly. April. We didn't know about this when we went to Belize but the Whale Sharks were migrating north...most of the pics suck cause it was quite dark but I have a few.

This is about the best one...

Some kind of reef shark. I have to admit this guy freaked me out. This is the only picture of him from a distance because I kind of froze when he got closer. Never came that close but still. He was kind of scary.

W O W

Even though it's just backdrop to the puffer, even the seafan made me gasp. And the whale shark .. ooohhhh. Just so very very wow man. Awesome.

Thanks. I am going to post more soon. I just have to find them all! I bought a new CPU a month ago and backed everything up from the old one onto DVD's. I wish I would have labeled them! I just found these ones in my 'screen saver' photo folder.

That last shark picture is not so great but I love it because it reminds me of that moment. I vividly remember seeing it just moments before that photo and immediately taking the picture. Then as it came closer and closer, I froze. Could barely move anymore. Never been so scared while diving other than diving locally here in BC (I can't deal with cold or dark water).

This spot was right at the edge of the reef. So these Whale Sharks were out in open waters. Apparently they come right into the reef itself but they didn't while I was there. I wish they would have as I would have been so much more comfortable and it would have been much brighter for pics. The problem for me with where we had to go to see them was how dark it was below me...and deep. Every time I looked down, I felt sick. Needless to say, I didn't last too long on that dive and really preferred the shallow reef dives!

I have now been to Trinidad, Bahamas, St. Lucia, Australia, Philippines, Guatemala and Belize on dive trips. Belize was the BEST BY FAR.

I have some photos of 'gardens' of literally hundreds of gorgonians. Will post them soon as I find them. Every dive in the Caribbean has been Gorgonian heaven but Belize really tops them all. Although the biggest I ever saw were in Tobago.

Most of the nicest, bright non photosynthetic ones would be hidden hanging upside down on the underside of rock overhangs.

Those puffers were very nippy at some of the corals too. So it's not just in our tanks! LOL.
