Default Monterey Bay Aquarium

Has anyone been?
We are going to San Fran next week and thinking of renting a car to drive to Monterey to visit the aquarium.
Is it worth the trip? What I've seen of it on TV looks pretty cool.

My opinion, you're that close, ya' gotta' go....

We were down there a few years back and I didn't want to drag the group to every aquarium in and around the Bay area. I regretted it! It is supposed to be great. Hoping to return to CA this summer and it will definately be on the list this time around!

While in San Fran, check out the "Steinhard Aquarium". (Not sure if I spelled that correctly). It was in a "temporary location" when we were there. It had some really cool exhibits. The permanent, renovated exhibit would surely be incredible. Aquarium of the Bay, on Pier 39 isn't too bad either.

Alcatraz is a must too!!!!!!!!!!! So cool! (Definately book/pay for that in advance or you'll miss out!)

Let us know how it was!

We were in Monterey last summer and the aquarium is a must see. The kelp forest tank alone will blow your mind. The new jellyfish exhibit is pretty cool too

Thanks for the tips guys, I think we will make the trip to Monterey.
The Steinhart Aquarium sounds amazing too, I'd like to see the 212,000g reef when it's finished.

Haven't been to Steinhart, but sounds pretty good.

Monterey Bay is worth seeing IMO. I went in '04 (gads, where does the time go .. the days are long but the years are short ) to go see the baby great white they had for a few months. Even only about 36" long, she was "baby white death", man those teeth are something.

Monterey Bay area is quite pretty too, nice coastal scenic drives, etc. Pebble Beach golf course looked nice enough that I'd almost consider playing golf just to see more of it ()

I say go. You'll likely enjoy it. Plus, it's right next to Cannery Row, so sort of an interesting history to the spot.

You can see sea otters out in the bay, sea lions in the marina, ... pretty humourous as long as you're not one of the boat owners cleaning the sea lion poop off your boat!!
