Default Rock. Live or Dry?

Hey All,

I've been piecing together my perfect tank. I've got a RSM130D and have upgraded some of the equipment. I'm finally ready to set it up. I was going to add the water on Saturday and add some rock. Since it's a brand new set up, should I add live or dry rock? I know it has to cycle before I can do anything with it, I guess I'm wondering if I add some live rock will it all die off and is it just better to invest in dry rock?

Thanks

Tweeds

If it's a brand new tank I think It's a good idea to put in LR. That being said you can mix in some dead rock as a base, I like the diversity different pieces of LR incorporate in to the tank. Regardless you will have a cycle in a new tank.

I prefer live rock. I hate dry rock.

i will never use dry rock to start again unless it has had time to cure or has been treated (acid bath followed by lanthanum chloride treatments). my initial ignorance led to plenty of experience with nuisance algae spanning a year.

Mindy, what happened to your writeups ?
I didn't bookmark them and now can't find them.
The ones that used to be in your Sig ...

The one about cycling would be appropriate right now !
