I was having similiar problems in one of my nanos and put in a 100ml pouch of Seachem Purigen & it solves the problem.

I replaced the carbon in my HOB with it and things look great. Water is crystal clear, and my corals (no SPS) are more extended.

Default brittle stars

I have had this happen a few times my tank would be crystal clear then it's cloudy a old heck, once in a while all my brittle stars will come out and rise up on all legs and shoot out a milky substance, they must be spawning, dosn't affect anything else in my tank, skimmer goes nuts though,it has happened around six times.
