Default Algae

Hello I have recently started a Nano reef tank and have a small hair algae problem (I think). I have had the tank up and running for 26 days with 16 Lbs of live rock and 20 LBS of live sand. I was using tap water and have recently switched to RO water. I did a 15 % water change with the RO water and was wondering if I should also turn out the lights for two days or so.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

if nothing is alive in your tank then go for it. but your tank is still very young. let it run its course. it will snuff itself out

Remove whatever you can physically. Do you regular water change with ro/di water. Check your nitrate and phos. Keep those levels undetectable and your algae should go away eventually.

thanks.

I will continue to do water changes and remove what I can from the rock. The other thing I found out is that low mg levels may contribute to algae growth as well and I just bought a test kit for mg and it is only 300ppm so I will slowly add supplements till I get the levels up to around 1250ppm.
