Default corals dieing

My tank is slowly wasting away! all my SPS have died and now my LPS are whithering away. all my levels seem to be fine, the only thing that has changed is my salt. I switched from IO to Kent. has anybody heard about bad batches of salt from Kent? the other thing that is happening is a purple slime algae is forming and taking over. Any thoughts?

How about some water parameters? Maybe a photo as well?

Yes there have been problems with salt in the past, although it usually centered around low levels of one element or another.

How old is the tank? What parameters are you checking and what are the actual results? I have heard of bad batches of salt but not any specific brand. How many water changes have you done with the Kent?

I have tested a fresh batch of saltwater and I am getting high levels 10.2 KH and 3.66 Alk.

salinity of 1.023, nitrate of 2mg/l.

What about ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, calcium, and magnesium?

Gord - I have a spare bucket of Seachem reef salt and am going through Dawson tomorrow if you want to try a different salt brand.
IMO you should not be getting any nitrate from freshly mixed salt.

Any problems with heat fluctuations? Are you running carbon? After the water changes you mentioned, did you see an immediate improvement, or a decline in your tank over all?

no problems with heat fluctuations. i am running Chemipure carbon. I don't notice any immediate improvement or decline after a water change.

How old is the system? Is it a barebottom system? I've heard of tanks getting wiped out because someone disturbed their old sand.
