Who needs Three Mile Island or Chernobyl when you can have dozens, if not hundreds of mini meltdowns in your very own neighborhood? That may be a nightmare scenario which has little basis in fact, but that’s the stigma that Toshiba will have to combat if it wants to see its 200 kilowatt micro nuclear reactor take off. The mini reactor measures 20 feet by 6 feet and is designed to be “fail-safe, totally automatic and will not overheat.” The reactor will have an energy production half life of 20 years and has the promise to make cheap electricity for around a nickel per kilowatt hour.”

So, what happens when there is a fire in a building wth one of these in it? Sounds pretty risky.

OK so what do you do with the spent fuel rods? Maybe Toshiba feels they have 20yrs to come up with a solution to that little problem.

Obviously they would do planning and research for that kinda stuff. Those would make your hydro bill VERY CHEAP.. If you could afford to buy one. But with the size of them, not many people are going to want them anyways, unless you dont care hat you whole back yard is taken up for a source of power. You have a bigger chance of dying from fumes from your vehicle than ya do a nuclear meltdown, just a bunch of people letting their fears lead them instead of them leading their fears.

The spent rods can be used in a cando reactor. They use low grade rods and turn them back into high, which can be reused. The problem is they never go all the way back to high grade, you have to add more each time.
There's a good old, american pass time for the hole family, changing radio active rods.

At $3.5 million not many people are going to be able to justify one for personal use.
