coralife aqualight mod opinions

ive got the 48" 150watt model with 2 power compacts. one of the pc ballasts has stopped working and im thinking i might be better off not wasting my money on a new ballast and maybe upgrading to leds or vho T5s. Just kinda wondering what the better way to go would be and how difficult it would be to do the retrofit. all opinions are welcome.
