Default Cucumber Question

My black cuke has started to spit/crap out thin white strands up to 12 inches long at a time. I find them strung out accross my rock and the sand. Didn't know what they were until I actually caught him doing it

When I fish them out of the tank they are so sticky and strong they would make Spiderman proud

He doesn't seem the worse for wear by doing it but any ideas as to just what the hell he's doing would be great

All of the tank occupants seem to be doing fine fish, shrimp, starfish, corals etc.. all appear to be healthy.

As Tarolisol suggested it likely may have been a defense mechanism, as my pair of cleaner shrimp can get a little over zealous in their duties and good intentions could be perceived as harassment. After a vigorous attempt at cleaning one of my Clowns the other day, my Clown spun around behind the cleaner and grabbed the shrimps tail in his mouth, it was hilarious to watch. The shrimp didn't appreciate it too much, but that'll learn him
