Default Neptune Apex

So I've had Apex controllers for a long time. Going back to the original model 15 or 20 years ago.

I recently acquired an Apex EL and I'm kinda disappointed with it.

Maybe it's because it's not the full apex (but I could car eless about orp or salinity) band the equipment I have not really being compatible but when I look into it, there really isn't that much that this thing can do that my old school green screen aquacontroller jr couldn't except for be programmed off my ipad.

I may also just be too dumb/old school to appreciate it but what does everyone here really see the value in the apex system as being?

If you use it for just a few of the basics, I see it as a waste of money. If you add to it and take advantage of every feature and automation, it becomes more valuable... and stoopid expensive.

So what do you use it for?

Temperature control

Auto Rodi fill

Leak detection

Although I refuse to buy a Trident, as I think it's overpriced and wasteful of reagents. Saving up for a Mastertronic.

So really nothing special, other than the alarms, maybe...

Salinity monitoring is kind of cool but with an ATO, I've never really had an issue with maintaining it. Maybe I've just been lucky.

The rest, any rudimentary controller could do. Or even several components that would cost less and be just as effective.

I also had previously purchased one of the Tunze Ro/DI controllers (which was like 400.00) so had that not been the case, there might be more value in it for me.

I guess I was hoping for more versatile control over more kinds of equipment instead of what essentially hasn't changed much in 15 years other than a pc/hardware based interface.

Oh well, was an impulse buy and I'll continue to mess around with it but I can definitely see myself just going back to the AC JR....

So I have been fighting Dinos and have actually found the ability to track what I'm adding and test results to be pretty handy compared to the calendar/sharpie method I had previously been using.

My Koralia also died, so am going to get a WAV. Just sucks I need to get the module first.
