reefwars will become famous soon enough
Default reefwars 75g ugraded bonsai tank build

well the 25g was nice but its grown out and im officially out of room , my fish are too big, corals too many and space very sparse.

heres the link to my 25g bonsai tank build have a look through if you never seen it before its def pic heavy lol

http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...ghlight=bonsai

the little tank was a complete success right from the beginning, it houses some very high end corals and is a full mixed reef including nps,lps and softies. the equipment however and the tank its self is pretty ghetto and is admittably small. the other downside the tank needs hours a day in maintanance

my bonsai tree max dimensions are 16l x 14"w and 18" tall....the tank is 18 x 18 x 18 .....you can see how it got frustrating room wise.

the current 25g specs:

25g cube
18 x 18 x 18
internal con=rner overflow
drilled for durso overflow
mag9.5
asmg2 skimmer with mesh mod
tlf reactor 150 with hc gfo
mp10
koralia1050
2 x brs peialistic dosers
1 x eheim jager 100w heater
10-15lbs liverock mounted on pvc structure
radion g1 xr-30w
ghetto sump 36 x 12 x 14h no baffles with liverock

system is tied into a 50g fragtank making the total water volume 100g including sump

out with the old and in with the new

new tank specs :

75g cube
30 x 30 x 20h
eurobraced
clear silicone
external overflow
drilled for herbie with extra emergency drain
26 x 26 x 18h sump
30 x 30 x 30 steel stand powder coated black
rx-u1.5 vertex reactor for gfo fed by eheim compact+ 3000
rx-u 1.5 vertex reactor for rox carbon
vertex uf-1.5 for bio pellets fed by mag5
mp10x 2
radion g1 xr-30w x 2
speedwave 2640 dc return pump
apex lite controller
2 x brs perialistic dosers
skimmer to be decided( either rlss r10-i or reef-octopuss diablo both dc skimmers)
tunze ATO
50g water resevoir with secondary float switches for emergency back up.
filtersock shelf for 7" filter sock
custom light hanger for dual radions , adjustable in all directions.

all equipment is brand new , this setup is being made with automation in mind and no upgrades anytime soon, also this tank will not share the frag system but will be isolated to its own loop.

i decided to go with concepts raceway sump basically instead of water travelling from point a-b , its forced through a maze of over unders and notches to maximize the amount of time water stays in the sump, a very good design that we try to incorporate in wider sumps like this

tank was built myself from 10mm float at concept aquatics.

right now i have all i need i have most of it set up and im shooting to do the transfer tomorrow as i took two days off to finish this up, right now today i am finishing the plumbing and doing a water leak test(wish me luck) then tonight it gets filled with saltwater and tomorrow i do the transfer to the new tank, no extra rock is being added just the existing bonsai tree.

i will not be going with the glass sand bed this time around as i want to add my wrasses to the new set up.

my current livestock to be transfered:

1 xcopperband butterfly
3 x pj cardinals
1 x red and blue mandarin
1 x scooter dragonette
1 x green mandarin
2 x trojan designer clowns
1 x black leopard wrasse
1 x mystery wrasse
1 x melanarus wrasse
1 x blue leopard wrasse
1 x fireshrimp
12 x peppermint shrimp
2 x harlequin shrimp

currently there are no plans to add anything else livestock wise , maybe a bartlett anthias to replace mine that died a while ago, basically just more room for the fish and upgraded equipment.

on christmas i passed this tank over to my girlfriend who taken care of it since and has done an amazing job both with the fish and the corals, shes proved herself worthy of owing the bonsai, with that said this cube will be a pair of cubes that we are doing the other cube which will be mine will be fully sps dominant, the idea is the two tanks are in two corners of the living room.

since my gf is taking the bonsai ive decided to get rid of the sps and some of the hard to keep nps corals and ive made the new setup as simple and automated as possibe to make it easier on her.

her tank will remain zoanthid dominated with lps and some hardy nps corals.

pics tonight after i finish the plumbing ....yay lol

cheers

denny

I have been looking at those Diablo DC Skimmers and I think I am going to order one with the self cleaning head when they finally come out. They look amazing.

Following along!

Yeah with that sized tank you could have at least 10 of them.

Radions eh? They're alright I guess......

I agree with Leah though! We need photographic evidence of this so called upgrade.
