Default RODI - problem with DI canisters

After over 5 years without issues, today, when I went to refill my DI canisters (I have 3), I noticed they were all expanded inside the holder. One (the first in the series) was actually burst inside the holder with DI resin spilled out. I cant get the other 2 out of the holder and will likely have to break the canisters apart to use the RODI unit again.

Has anyone ever had this issue or any ideas of how this happened?

The canister I was able to remove. Was already burt and spilling resin beads

Deformed plastic looking from top (while in canister holder)

One of two remaining DI units with canister inside. Inner canister pressed against side so hard! (notice white arrow from stressed plastic)

Yikes! I haven't saw this happen before. Makes me wonder if I should be unscrewing my clear filter canisters at least once a year.

I've had the RODI unit for over 5 yrs, but I change out/refill often. Last time was about 4 months ago.
I cant figure out why the DI resin canisters are looking like they expanded.

I'll have to cut the other two out and put new canisters which I just ordered from J and L. I'd just like to know what happened... makes no sense to me.

Any chance they started freezing?

I'm gonna guess not, but that's all I can come up with...

Did you pack them too tight? The resin does expand a little bit... But that seems quite extreme! It does look like they froze, but why no damage anywhere else?
