Default Any experience with 400W dimmable MH?

Does anybody have experience with 400W dimmable mogul MH lights? On paper it seems a 400W dimmed to 50% is an affordable light to start with which can scale up as my light needs increase. They're very easy to find on the used market, and for quite cheap, which is why I'm considering the option. Even if I buy new I can get a full setup for $300 CAD + bulb. Far cheaper than an LED system.

What sort of impact does it have on bulb life? And does it change the colour?

I have a 400w ballast but used a 250w bulb non dimmable even cheaper. Collecting dust now tho i cant afford the electricity step 2 pricing kills me and heat problems so needed a chiller. Led more affordable now for myself anyway.
