Default C2C weir cut

So i will be doing a C2C overflow. Now i want to do a external version. So ive read no angled cuts but ive thought why not cut from end to end? Will this work?

Not sure I understand your questions, but when you cut the back glass, you need to drill holes at the ends at the bottom corners, then cut from the radius/outer edges of the holes to the top of the glass and meet the holes in the center/cut left to right with a straight line

Make sense?

If I understand your thoughts, no, you can not cut a straight/square corner as it will fracture. Whether it's right away or later, it will crack.

I do understand that design.
Hmmm...
To make it simple basically shortening the entire length of the glass.
So if the tank is 24 inches high I'm making that Pane of glass 22.
Straight cut fro. End to end. That way there's no messing with holes and no edges to create an uneven pressure point.

Maybe this won't work for other reasons.

Another way out. I have a 90 gal so its 48 long by 24 high. So I will cut a 2 inch strip off the top that's 48 inches long.

Usually, the front and back panes support the side/end panes. With that in mind you'd have a gap between the overflow box and the sides.

I can accommodate that with the overflow glass. Have you heard of this? Think it will be fine?

I suppose you could do that as the ends of your box will be the fill in pieces. But if you do your box will only be 2 inches deep. Not sure how well it would drain without making a lot of noise.
Cutting little strips of glass to fill in the ends would be nearly impossible. And you would be asking too much of the silicone.

Thank you for thinking this through with me.
I suppose the outside of my overflow could go to the outsides on the tank but that would look ugly.
I guess I will have to drill and connect the bottoms.
Doing this, either way. Will it decrease strength of that side?

Look online. I remember seeing a site that showed how far from the edges to drill. It discusses glass thickness and hole sizes. Remember that you want your overflow box to be 3 or 4 inches deeper than the top of the weir.

One other thing. Do some research about the weir height. With a C2C the water flowing over will be very thin so you won't need to cut very low. I'm thinking 1/2" will give you lots of wiggle room as I'd be surprised if the flow is even 1/4" thick.
Figure out your potential flow rate and look around the web.
