Center Brace Question

I bought this 2nd hand aquarium. It is 120 gallon 60x18x24. The glass is very thick and it didn't have a center brace. The previous owner told me it did not came with it because of the thickness of the glass. If I want to put a center brace, where can I buy the top trim with center brace? If I leave it as it is, how safe is it? I'm worried about bowing. I saw online that I can put a glass in the middle and use silicone to hold it together (does that work)?

Your tank might be perfectly fine not having a center brace so long as the glass is thick enough. I have 2 rimless tanks as they were both designed with thick enough glass to prevent any bowing issues.

Measure and then post the thickness of your glass as I'm sure there are a few members on here that can verify if your tank is fine being rimless.

If the tank was used and it doesn't appear to be bowed I would leave well enough alone. Did the previous owner provide any concerns with the tank not having a center brace.

He said there was no concern. The glass is 3/8 inch thick

The glass centre brace works just fine, if you are concerned at all put one in front to back glass 3/8" by 3-4 inches wide. It's not hard to do and then you have piece of mind, 120 gallons looks great with all the water in the tank and not on the floor. Just my opinion

For piece of mind I would put a centre brace in better to have that protection there than waking up to a 120 gallon pond on your floor just my 2 cents worth

3/8" glass isn't thick, for a tank that size it definitely requires bracing. A center brace however isn't the only option, most tanks utilize a euro style brace as shown below. If your tank has this then you should be fine, if not, some form of bracing should be added.

My bad. it is actually 1/2 inch thick. I ordered a piece of glass and will silicone it in the middle. I also changed all the silicone inside it. Cross my finger it will hold.
