Default what skimmer 2buy

I am in the middle of upgrading my mixed reef/fish system. (77 with 30gal fuge) The plan is to set up a new system of approx 150 to 200gal (fuge included) with a light to moderate fish load. My question is for around the $300-$500.00 mark what is my best bang for the buck skimmer. I've heard ASM work good but alot of owners are doing that needlewheel mod so it leaves me asking is there something better that shouldn't need a mod?... I've heard downdraft skimmers are better than venturi?.?. True? Or not. At this point I don't have a new tank yet. I need all the input I can get so I can buy the equipment, and THEN buy the tank. Any feedback and knowledge would be great. The only skimmer I've owned is a CSS so I don't have a lot of experiance with them.
