Clams?

I was just at J&L last weekend and they still had quite a few clams for sale.

I'm curious... How long can a clam be housed in a 33 gallon tank before it out grows the tank? Of course I understand there's a lot of factors like for example, how big the clam is when it was purchased, species of clam, etc.

I'm in the process of getting a 33 gallon tank going (36" x 12" foot print) and have always wanted one.
