Default What am I?

I took these photos, but I'm not familiar with this tang. What kind of tang is it? Sorry, these were the best photos I could snap with the limited the limited amount of the time I had.

**edit**
I forgot to mention that these are juvi. colors, the fish was less then 1" from nose to tail.

Curious, where was this fish?

The juvenile thing is throwing me off, but I wonder if it might be a Lieutenant tang (Acanthurus tennentii).

http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/tangs/tennentitang/

The powder blue, particularly around the tail spine, and the splash of yellow around the eye. But they don't have the stripes like this one does, but I don't know if that's a juvenile coloration thing.

If it is a tennentii that's very cool. You don't seem to see them come up too often. Every now and again they do. I'm hoping to find one for my 280g down the road. It's that or an Achilles.. which-ever I can find first I guess.

Its in a friend's 120 in Airdrie. The poor thing wasn't doing to well and is now living in the tank's sump/frag tank. The person doesn't know if they should keep it because its getting beat around by the current and other fish. He said it came to him when he bought someone else tank last week. I have to admit its very unique fish!

After looking at fishbase.org my guess is a Doctorfish (http://fishbase.org/Summary/speciesS...name=chirurgus) but I'm not totally sure since I'm not familiar with the fish.

I would even consider taking the fish for a short time to fatten it up and acclimate it to stronger currents. However my tank isn't ready for anything so I guess the fish stays where it is.

For some reason the link didn't work for me but after googling it and seeing pictures of "Acanthurus chirurgus" .. I would agree that it does look like that's what it could be.

Very pretty fish, I don't think I've ever seen one before. Hope he fattens up and does well!

The tail in the link from fishbase isn't quite right though, hence my fence sitting. Some of the pictures show a yellow or white ring on the tail, which I'm about 90% sure the fish doesn't have.

He is going to give the fish 24 more hours and then decide what to do with it. I may put up a post on his behalf tomorrow if he feels the fish's interests are best served elsewhere.

That is a nice fish. If for some reason he wants to sell it or if he needs a place to keep it to get it healthy.....Im interested.

ok...I agree I think it is a doctorfish and it can get up to 15" long.

so on that note...he will get to big for the tank I have now.

some info

Cool! Thanks for the firm ID on it. Are they a common fish? I think this is the first one I have ever seen!
