In case it had any parasites or otherwise nasty creepy crawlies on it.

No It'll be fine. Invert's are not "acceptable" host's to parasites which affect fish. Now that drop of water on the starfish may be packin' a bug or two but that's a whole different concern. Most retailer's have inverts isolated from fish, so again, it should be fine. Some retailers actually take the extra precautions and give their starfish a freshwater dip... .
