My RODI drain is exactly like the above pic. Hasn't leaked in 15+ yrs.
I would use that upstream of the P trap any time.
But I would be leary to use that on the supply, pressure line. I have seen that before, but personally do not trust it.

Just make sure you have a gas trap installed. Sewer gasses are a pain in the ass.
