Default UPS and fees

FYI

I had a parcel coming from the States and the the USPS charge was 28 USD and UPS was 20 USD. Before I had a chance the seller shipped UPS. So UPS phoned me and said the extra charge was 30 CDN(GST and Custom clearing). They also gave me a choice of whether or not I wanted to clear it myself. In order to do that I would have to go to the city where it was going to enter from the states. In this case Winnipeg. The bottom line is I would have to go there in person to clear the parcel. UPS said the other ports were in Calgary, Vancouver in the West. UPS would not have it sent to those other ports unless specified by you or the seller. No for those people that don't live near those ports they are hooped.

I wonder if they is any other way to clear through customs in your own city? I know Edmonton has Customs offices for sure at the airport and in the City.

Moral...Never Ever use UPS

UPS are CROOKS when shipping cross border. It's Extortion, plane and simple, yet they are allowed to get away with it. USPS whenever possible, and they ship some pretty heavy items, so no worries on that

I agree UPS is a scam (have experienced then myself) but I if you use them, don't think there's anyway around their fees.

"Crook" is a good word
I had a package shipped UPS to me paid thier exhorbant fee they then contacted me a few months later asking for the money again. I had to send them a CC statement showing it had been paid.
UPS farms thier deliveries out to a local company here and even they don't like UPS.
Google "UPS" some real horror stories

I learned the hard way as well. USPS might take a day or two longer but is definitely worth it IMO.

It's not only UPS but all courier services. If you can get them to ship USPS or if your lucky like I am ......... get it sent to a border town and pick it up from there.

Cheers,
Vic
