The venturi is ahead of the pump and with no salt, the bubbles are large and can cause a lot of noise in the pump. It should quiet down once you have put salt in the system. Aspirating venturi is nice for small or valued systems. A better way of doing it is to use a real venturi device after the pump, though you need a pressure rated one then. I personally don't believe in them aspirating venturi in skimmer use as it cuts down the performance of the pump. Titus
