I actually think it is larger than just a PFO scam. I cannot see the article but if it is the same people they were posting things for sale on eBay and closing the auctions promising delivery after X date. This gave them enough time to post THOUSANDS of dollars worth of auctions and get peoples money.

It is a shame that we have to deal with this EVERY day.
