Parameter testing question
I am colorblind which is making reading the parameter tests (the test tube kind or dip strips) very difficult (probably impossible since I really have no idea if the color I'm seeing is in fact the color it is lol). I am wondering if there are any parameter tests that use numeric value rather than color value? I asked at a LFS and he just looked at me like I was crazy or some freak of nature and had no information. The ones that are giving me the most problems are the Ph, Ammonia, and Nitrate tests.

I think there are digital checkers that Hanna makes. Not sure the price, but from what i understand they work quite well.

I use API for alk (KH) and Ca testing. You add drops until the colour changes. So that might work for you, if you can detect a colour change.
For phosphates (P04) I use the Hanna digital checker. Very accurate, but kind of expensive. Don't bother with pH testing. Not needed for salt water. Don't have a good suggestion for you with nitrates (N03). All the ones I know use a colour comparison. Maybe take to your LFS for testing. Once you are fully cycled, you won't need to test for Ammonia on a regular basis. Maybe take to an LFS for that if you suspect it.

Hanna Checkers are the way to go. They are around $50-60. One you have the checker you only need to buy regent refills and so they aren't too expensive in the long run.

I love those Hanna checkers! Those look perfect - I'll grab a couple that I'll be using often and then just take my water in to the LFS for more specific testing. Thanks a lot!
