If there aren't any environmental factors inducing them to split,
Then I'd say you just happen to have a strain that is genetically predisposed to splitting.

I've kept RBTAs for years, and have not had mine split to that degree.

I'm quite certain I still have my original "mother" from 10+yrs ago.
How large do they expand? Mature cloned from my RBTA can easily get 8-10" diameter. They don't stay small, and typically don't split until atleast 6" diameter.

The tank full of them, especially all bubbled up looks pretty spectacular! Looks great!

Back in the day, that would have been a cash cow.
