It all depends on what are you plans. If you what coral A t5s fixture (10000-15000 Kelvin) will work. On a fish only with live rock (FOWLR) you can get away with normal t12 florescent light (6500 Kelvin). Not as bright as t5s. Can grow mushrooms not much else. I have t12s over my FOWLR.

I suggest t5 fixture give you room to grow with the hobby. Run a Skimmer. In my opinion I like the skimmer sump design. Sump adds more water to your system, houses your heater, pumps and skimmer out of sight.
