If you have any of the 'brew on premises' beer making businesses in Sask or Alta, they will also be a good source for large plastic, food grade barrels. They have malt & adjunct in the barrels and once they're empty, they don't reuse them. Can usually pick one up for about $40 here in Vernon, but could differ depending on where you go. I also picked up a plastic drum sold as a rain barrel from a local garden center, it contained glycerine, a byproduct of bio fuel, so vegetable based. That one only cost me around $20. The container is also food safe I think, just needs to be rinsed out real well.
