Not sure what you've been reading but even live aquaria which tends to err on the small side says a minimum of 180g.

I had one in a 120g and when he got to 5" (went from 3"-5" within a year) it was obvious that he was outgrowing the tank, started getting very aggressive and swam in a stressed sporatic mannor. So I upgraded to a 230g and even then I found it on the small side for him when he got to 8". They get to a foot long in size, a 12" fish is an extremely tight fit for a 125g.
