If it's a fire belly newt you'll want to have it in a species tank usually. A 10 gallon would be best, but a 5 gallon will suffice. I've seen them get up to 6 inches in length. I wouldn't mix with fish, as you'll want to set up the tank as an amphibian tank, so a mixture of land/dry spots and water, with good filtration and water movement. Feed frozen or freeze dried bloodworms as the main diet.
