Everytime the plebiscite or referendum or whatever it was called came out, I was surprised at how many people really wanted flouride.

What's weird is how many of those same people will fight tooth and nail against something like .. say mandatory seatbelts. How dare the government interfere with our right to choose! etc. etc.

To me it's crazy. If you want flouride for your teeth, brush with a flouride toothpaste. The choice is there. But it's OK to have it forced on you ... I don't get it, I really don't.

I think I've heard though that there is some statistic showing that since flouride was put in, kids cavities have gone down.

I knew one guy who was so adamant about flouride, and I even asked him, would you still want it if it was shown to cause cancer? He replied with "life causes cancer. So yes, I would still want it."

I especially like how a "no" vote means "try asking again next election." And as soon as you get 51%, it's "the people have spoken. We must not ask this question again!"
