A few weeks ago I had a small outbreak of the same brown Cyanolike stuff. It confined itself to the sand, but did creep up rocks a bit. It too went away at night and returned in the morning. All I did was siphon it out, and replaced the water I removed with newly mixed. It soon disappeared.
