I had the same issue a year or so ago.... and when I calibrated and checked against a pH pen, I found the monitor to be out by 0.5 so I was actually running at 7.95 not 8.45... Now I calibrate once a month or so and concentrate on alk and ca levels... keeping those parameters in line will usually keep pH around 8.2 - 8.4 unless you have too much c02 in the system...
