Jumps in worms/detritus eaters means you are probably over-feeding & there is excess food falling to your gravel or substrate. My seahorse tank gets that way because of all the target feeding I do to keep the seahorses stuffed
I usually feed into one plant & then after a good feeding, I'll use my net & scoop out a bunch of the gravel to rinse out excess worms. They congregate where there is extra food, so under the feeding station is a good place for me to do this.
