I use a sequence barracuda as a closed loop (manifold) on my tank. They are pretty quiet for the amount of water flow they give.

I would do 25% changes once a week or a bit more often, it all depends on how high your nitrates are.

Better built skimmers would be euro-reef and deltec, and bubblekings are supposed to be awesome, but you pay out nose for em.
