Partly because they come larger. And they aren't negatively buoyant when empty like an AL80 so easier to stay submerged with less additional weigh toward she end of the dive.

i suspect the noise is more form air being sucked down the one drain line along with the water. not sure changing the elbow would help much. you need a way to balance the flow in the drain.
