Instant Ocean Salt

Lee,

Hmmm...sounds fine. I have found that if the water becomes snowy when I mix saltwater, I have added too much salt and the calcium levels are oversaturated (i.e. they precipitate out). So, I...

Overdriving lights.

Hi,

The 18" to 24" thing...I think that is true for electromagnetic ballast. Since the operating voltage and current for those lamps are approximately the same (within 15%), the 18" will be...

Overdriving lights.

Hi,

I am assuming the 1.5" diameter tubes right ?

The problem is that 40W and 20W usually uses approximately 430mA of lamp current -- that is the current flowing through the fluorescent tube....

Glass for DSB

Hi,

Sounds fine...I would check if the lime desolves in water (i.e. check if this stuff is like kalk) by checking the pH when it is in water.

I would also check if the lime is relatively pure...

Rio 800 pump opinions?

Hi,

I have one of those...and I think it is aweful. I built a HOT-1 skimmer and it works fine as a combine pump + venturi. However, the impeller tends to be a weak point in the design. ...

Hi,

Ehh..why not. In the photography business, people can shoot in slide film (or positives) or regular film (negatives). The presentation slides are made of roughly the same material and they...

Business Cards

Hi,

Can't you go to Kinkos and ask them to make a slide (like those good old 1.5" X 2" slides for presentations) and make a negative that way ?

exact lenghth of 6' vho setup?

Usually, 6' tubes are 6' long when you use the regular endcaps (the $3 ones that you get from shoplamps). However, the waterproof endcaps add an extra 1/4" on each side or so, so the total length...

Steve,

Ummm...do you think you can do some of your PC measurements with a 3 feet distance from the lamp. Andy, from Icecap, did some measurements @ 3 feet.

Will these ballasts work

Hi,

Short answer...they are not design to drive the Iwasaki's properly or a standard MH (M58). They are design to drive a special MH called M138. You can try, maybe you can try an old bulb...

A silly question, I was wondering if you provided enough circulation to the Xenia to slough off the mucus (i.e. more less...have a powerhead blow indirectly at it) ?

What's your pH ? ...

Hi,

Hmmm..pH should drop a bit when the kalk reactor is removed. Kalk adds OH- (basically increases pH) and Ca++. Anyway, I think that affects the skimmer.

Ca reactors drop pH...so it also...

Overdriving lights.

Hi,

Iwasaki 250w used by reefers are known as MV conversion lamps. They are MH lamps, but they are design to operate on a MV fixture. MV are cheaper because they don't need a capacitor to start....
