Brown to Beautiful - SPS Success stories

I saw an awesome thread while on ReefCentral that was to show off your SPS corals that started out as brown ugly lost causes that looked like they were gonna die ... that turned into proverbial swans as they recovered and got healthy.

So lets see them gorgeous corals that didn't even look like they were gonna make it

I only have 1 ... hopefully will have a few more of these posts in the future

This particular coral I picked up as a dying frag for $5 when I was buying a bunch of other live stock. It was basically a throw away frag for the owner, because it was browned out and not encrusting.

This is it when I got it home:

A few months later at least it was growing

I added UV LED's to my setup ... and then it really started morphing colors

And here it is today:

This little number (the coral on the right) was an all browned out mini colony with just the teeniest tiniest hint of blue at the tips when I got it. The most I was expecting was nicer tips as it grew

As of last week:

I've never been able to get a good photo of it though, it's colour of blue is so closely matched to to what my camera sensor thinks the lights in the tank are that it always washes out. In real life the branches are are a deep sky blue and the centre of the colony that's most exposed to light is a near white, glowing cloud-blue.

Here is my contribution. The first pic has both corals in it one brown and one assumed dead. They are not fully beautiful yet. But slowly leaving the brown/white behind.

the frag in the front is the guy that has started to make a recovery came from Brent:

Not all good but looking much better:

What causes them to regain their colour? Is it just correct parameters or is this through adding additional supplements other than calc/alk/mag?
