Auto-topoff for a sump-less tank?
I am currently cycling a 30 gallon sump-less tank and manual topoffs aren't a major problem. However, since it is a rather small tank, even a little bit of excess evaporation can affect salinity in a noticable way. To make things even worse, I will be leaving the city for an extended amount of time and I cannot get anyone to come in to manually top off my tank. Is there anything I can build/buy that will automatically top off my tank?

well you can make a manual topp off with a a 5gal jug i will send you the pic thati have or buy a tunze osomater spelling bad they are around 300 to buy

how big is the tank, most people run a float valve but they are big and ugly, the way I would do it is to get one of thoes level switches that people are talking about in the forsale area and hook that to a water selanoid valve that fails shut. then as was said use a 5 gal jug hogher than the tank. this way the level switch will open the selanoid when water is low but if you have a power failure it will fail shut and not overfill your tank.

I forgot to mention... this tank is in a tight spot in my basement, I cannot elevate any kind of reservoir over the tank.... so a nurce topoff system or any variants won't work. I need something that will be able to pump water from a reservoir thats on the ground. I saw a Tsunami Topoff system here. Is that any good? Is there anyway I can duplicate this system without spending a hundred bucks?

Are you handy at electircal wiring? You could just buy a float switch for $12 off this forum and wire it yourself so that it turns on a pump when it detects a water drop.

Funny you should mention that. I spent a good portion of my night looking up float switches and relays... I think I'm gonna go that way and save myself a hunk of cash =)
Where can I buy the float switch from here? -Richer |
