The Wal-Martization of Reefs
I was in the Wal-Mart today and I saw Mag-type pumps labelled Pondmaster, they were cheap. Are these OK for reefs?

i believe pondmaster is simply the freshwater counterpart to the mag drives.
somethin about black screws that are noncorrosive on the mags, and the pondmaster just using regular silver colored screws that will rust... HTH |
Just checked the web for Pondmaster pumps and it says they can be used in fresh and salt water.I've seen these at other stores and always wondered too. What size pumps and how much were they at Walmart?
|
well...whatever... if it walks like a duck...
theyre made by the same company... they are essentially the same... HTH |
The largest size I saw was a Mag 7.
Price I don't remember exactly but around $100 and something for the Mag 7 size -- I just checked J & L's website and it looks cheaper there. |
I believe Home Depot among other big box stores have also sold Mags and may still.
My Mags both have metal screws, which Jonathan suggested I coat with silicone so they don't rust. |
Pond master pumps have a 30ft chord. Mag's have something like a 6 or 8 ft chord.
|
I love the long cord on the pond master, but Barry just said the other day.....where did the screws go on this thing.............
|
... Am I the only one here who has run Mag's for over 3 years without the screws?
