1/2" to 0.5mm valve?
 

I have finally got an JBJ ATO (Yappy! Got tired of topping off). The pump that I got with it (maxijet 1200) has a 1/2" mouth. So I bought 1/2" pipe and fitted it with the maxijet and the other end on top of the tank (duh! :mrgreen:). Kept it outside water so that no vacuum suction occurs. But the flow from 1/2" is a bit too much for my tank so I was thinking of putting a valve in between and take a 0.5mm tubline out which will throw in water.

So is there any sort of valve for 1/2" in and 0.5mm out? Or which sort of valve do you guys recommend?

I am not turning on the pump till I get something to control the flow.

from 1/2 in to 0.5mm is a big restriction. I would buy the smallest pump I could.
You could always cap the end of the 1/2" pipe and drill a 0.5mm hole into the cap. But I bet you will be enlarging the hole pretty darn quick. Big back pressure on the pump!

If you are having issues with it because it splashes ...

Put a larger hose into the water that the output feeds through

The black hose is my ATO feed, and the clear 1/2" hose is under water a bit

It takes a couple fittings, but MJ1200 to 1/4" can be done and will work fine.

I'll post how I did it when I get home from class.

I might be wrong about the hi-end pumps but isin't all the powerhead pumps's mouth 0.5"?

Actually the problem is, the 0.5" pipe is pushing out too much water (bigger surface area) and hence my corals didn't like it (maxi mini was like WTH); I want to limit that.

I think your idea will help too. Correct me if I am wrong, but with your method, you are pulling in less water right?

what I did with mine is,

1/2" vinyl tube => 1/2" barb/female threaded fitting => male 1/2" / 1/4" slip in RO line.

or simply thread the inside of MJ outlet.

Can you please tell me the name of the stuffs that you used? I am really illiterate when it comes to plumbing stuffs :redface:

Same thing I did with mine, and those are pretty much the names you'll see at the HD (or wherever you go).

1/2" ID vinyl tubing ==> 1/2" barb to 1/2" FPT ==> 1/2 MPT to 1/4" quick-connect/push-connect/pressure fitting
