Mushroom removal

I there a way to remove a Hairy mushroom from live rock while in tank?

FitoPharmer 08-11-2012 03:06 PM

Either cut the base with a razor blade or chip off the part of the rock it is on with a chisel. If you cut it a new mushroom could grow from the leftover flesh and the big piece should be put in a small rubble container in a low flow area. Some mushrooms can also be carefully peeled off like the foot of a anemone.

If the foot is completely exposed you can probably use your fingernail and convince it to let go.

Like kill it or just move it? If you want to kill it zappers or aiptasia killers can work I thought I got all mine out when one popped up, just a small one mind you, but i injected it with aiptasia killer and havent seen it since. Mileage may vary though.

If I inject it with a little vinegar do you think it would poison the tank?
I tried getting under it to pry it off but it starts to slime, there is about 5 large ones and they have a good hold on the rock.

If you want them gone for good and your live rock is not too hard I find a sharp razor blade can cut the live rock a millimeter or two below the foot with a little elbow grease.

Inject with kalk paste or vinegar.

Thanks

I'm going to try injecting one with vinegar.

Did you do it in your display tank?
