Banggai fry.........
 

I need advice from those that have some experience raising banggai fry. The male Banngai should be releasing the fry fairly soon and I am totally inexperienced rearing fish fry. How often should they get fed?

I have done research and it seems that some people feed baby brine shrimp, micro worms and rotifiers. There is also a guy that reared the fry on frozen prawn eggs very succesfully. Does anybody know where I can get frozen prawn eggs?

Any advice on what to feed these little super cute fish is much appreciated.

what i did Daniel was almost the time to release i caught him at night or when ever was a good time. Then once he released the fry sometimes in the tnak i just used a net and put them in the hatchery. and fed them rotifers from the LFS.

To breed bangaii fry you can hatch and feed baby brine, as the member said you can try catching the adult male or just catch the hatchlings when released and have them in a 5 or 10g breeding tank with an airstone and heater, do not use powerheads. Naturally in the ocean they hide in-between spines of urchins. My friend built a fake urchin with putty and a few toothpicks they hide in it.

Be carefull when they are small they should not be taken out of water and are very sensitive to salinity, when he caught two babies for me to raise as soon as they came out of water into the container which was less than 2 second out of water they were floating due to air starvation. We put an airline in and they started slowly swimming again after a minute, that was a scary time....... It would be a good idea to have an airstone to aerate the holding tank. You feed live baby brine and should do regular water-changes because the brine foul water quick. You can purchase larger amounts of brine shrimp online it will cost you more if you buy locally. you should be hatching 1/2 teaspoon every other day and usually takes 24-36 hrs to hatch, the hatched brine can last 2 feedings or 2 days.

You can diy a brine shrimp hatchery or buy 2 of monocus here, I am grabbing a few from him myself. He was nice enough to order a bunch up.

The reason why you have 2 is to keep hatching brine, you will need a strong airpump and a manifold so you can have 2 hatchery and your tank running at the same time.

It takes effort to raise bangaii but all the work pays off when you see the cute buggers...

Thanks for sharing that link. I wonder how much longer the male is going to carry the fry in its mouth. The poor guy has not eaten since May 9th. The eggs hatched at the end of May and I thought that he would only carry the fry for 10 more days but they are still in his mouth. This guy must be starving!

Exciting news! This morning when I woke up I inspected the tank to see if the fry had been released by the male but I didn't see any in the display. I looked at the back chamber and there were 2 tiny Banggais. No idea how these 2 little guys got there, but I decided to force the male to release the rest of the fry. There is 8 tiny banggais in total. I am afraid the male released more but they were eaten by the other fish.


Here are some pics of the fry, 8 in total and I have no idea what to do with them....lol. right now they are in a big net but I don't think that they should stay there long term. I tried to feed them Cyclopeeze and Rotifers but I am not sure that they ate anything.

When I had mine I took one of the plastic containers that some of the lfs use to package coral and drilled tiny holes all around it for water flow and set it in my sump.The baby's stayed there until they were bigger and then I sectioned off a piece of my sump just for them,, I can't help you with the food issue.. Mine would only eat live baby brine..I was never ale to get them to eat anything.

That's cool. I would recommend to hatch brine shrimps.
